De zanger had een moeilijke periode voor hij dit album maakte en bezong met het nummer Shadow Days de hoop dat deze slechte tijd achter de rug was. Bij de opnames kreeg hij hulp van co-producer Don Was (Grammy Award als producer van het jaar in 1995) en pianist Chuck Leavell (Allman Brothers Band)
