Heja Hoppa Hee Ze kwamen overzee Een schip gezeild door de wind, op zoek naar gewin in vreemde contreien. Bemand met jongens van stavast die droomden alvast van goud en geluk. Heja Hoppa Hee Ze kwamen overzee. Spraken over vrede en vriendschap. Heja Hoppa Hee Ze namen alles mee. Dat was in het belang van de V.O.C. De vlag ten top in de mast. Ze waren te gast en dreven veel handel. De reis naar dit paradijs kende zijn prijs, en die was peperduur. Heja Hoppa hee Ze kwamen overzee. Spraken over vrede en vriendschap. Heja Hoppa Hee Ze namen alles mee, dat was in het belang van de V.O.C. Zo ging het in de Gouden Eeuw, Kaap de Goede Hoop Er klonk op straat een nieuwe schreeuw: 'k Heb peper te koop!
