Hey this is the person who wrote the tab.

I want to say once and for all, I KNOW that there is no bass in the song. I called it bass in the tab because I thought it would avoid confusion, and just make things easier (plus, I didn't really know what else to refer to it as). Please I don't need people emailing me every few days over this tab. Thanks.

By the way, this tab may sound good (in my opinion it does, anyway) but Jack actually plays the main riff (as well as the solo) with a slide. I saw it when the Stripes were on Conan. I'm going to see the Stripes live on Nov. 30 so I'll make sure I see exactly how the "bass" part is played.

Oh, one more thing. The tuning is as follows:

E, A, E, A, C#, E. The post chorus and solo are played with a brass slide. This is one place where the video is accurate. The only time this song ever had a bass line was when Metallica covered it at the VMAs, and Rob Trujillo played it on bass. It's not really that hard to figure out, you just have to accept that this is the way it's really played.

And if anybody wants to say Im wrong, they can kiss my a**.

OK, since people can't make up their minds, I'll put this to rest, once and for all. The intro/verse is played with a suboctave pedal. JACK SAID SO HIMSELF.

Uhh. Why exactly are people flaming this tab? I think it sounds pretty good,and if you don't like it, sybmit your tabbed out version... No one likes reading tabs in between inane comments...

I think whoever put this tab on is right. but i really wouldnt know because ive only been playing the guitar for 5 months, but anyway i have an ear for these things.

Look all u older ppl r tryin to make this so hard! just play E--7--7--10--7--5--3--2 over and over I mean it sounds right and its easy and IM A 14 y/o GIRL!

I did not like this. whats with the bridge chords. this was not very enjoyable on the whole.

Jack plays a 64' Wards Airline. The body is made of hollow plastic and the front pick up dosent work. He says he likes playing it because he feels hes taking somthing broken and making it work.
PS The Stripes are cool!

For the slide tuning try tuning both E strings down to D and the A string down to G, then bar all six strings and play 9--9/12-9-7-5--4 once then 9--9/12-9-7-5-7-5-4 once and repeat. Bridge is just open eight strums, and then 2nd fret eight strums, sounds best without slide. Solo starts
D-9-hold-12-11--9-9-12-9-12^14^12-11 repeats & then goes up an octave.

From listening I am certain the main riff is played on the record on a bass guitar, the tone doesn't match anything that can come out of a guitar, palm muted, through a pedal, even if you put bass strings on it you could not make a guitar sound the same as a bass with such a pure tone, and if you haven't played bass then don't bother trying to argue. Of course Jack probably uses an effect to try to get the bass sound live so he can play guitar for the rest of the song, but that has no relevance to what was played in the studio.

yo,i cant read this tab at all.Its not that its wrong or anything, i just cant read tab even tho i have instructions. It confuses me. I checked under White Stripes Chords, and there wasnt 7 nation army. Can someone send the chords to the white stripes chords? Thanks fellow musicians.

And its in open A damnit! But no, you do not need a bass... I play it as I wrote in an earlier post. Open A, sans top bass string replaced with a heavy 60 guage tuned to low A.
the ONLY reason I do this is that guitar does nothing other than open G tuning usually anyways, but I octave the 5th string to the 6th... Its totally possible with the octaver on the A string - I just do not have one of those octave pedals...

Hey everyone, I just wanna say that this song is played on a Ibanez Jet King GUITAR. You can tell on the video b/c of the cool metallic pick guard and wooden headstock I own one and thought it was cool that he was playing the same guitar, but anyways... Jack also uses an octave down petal, he said so when asked about the Sheet music for the July edition of Guitar One. I hope this settles any disputes you guys are having over the whole bass/no bass thing. If it came from Jack's mouth and you still think there is a bass then it just seems like your looking for a fight to me
