The New Birth
The New Birth is an R&B, soul and funk musical group founded in 1963 by producer/songwriter Vernon Bullock along with singer-songwriter and Motown producer Harvey Fuqua and musicians. Originated in Louisville, Kentucky and Detroit, Michigan, the group were known as the Nite-Liters whose hit single "Twine Time" was #1 in 1964. In the 1970's, the band was reformed as the New Birth with female vocalists along with brothers Leslie and Melvin Wilson. The group had a number of hit singles including Wildflower, I Can Understand It, Dream Merchant, and It's Been A Long Time. The New Birth still continues to perform on stage nationwide to audiences today who are fans of soul and R&B music.
