Stoopkes

Hasselt is a town in the flemish part of Belgium, not so far from the Dutch border. It has an old and respected tradition of making very good ‘jenever’ (that’s a ‘spiritual’ drink). In Hasselt used to be 25 different distilleries at the same time.

The typical ‘jenever’-bottle (made out of clay) is called a ‘stoopke’.

So the group ‘the STOOPKES’ have a joyful program of old traditional flemish drinking-songs.

They use a few accordeons, an organ, a boemlala, an ukelele, a few attributes and a lot of good flemish humor to create the special atmosphere and ambiance of the flemish pubs as it used to be years ago.

Beste, Meer dan 30 jaar geleden, op 6 maart 1993, traden jullie voor onze vereniging op in Wijnendale bij Torhout. Binnenkort organiseer ik een busexcursie waarop ik graag enkele nummers van De Stoopkes zou willen laten horen. Mag ik vragen hoe het op vandaag nog gaat met De Stoopkes. Wanneer gaan jullie eens nieuwe nummers brengen?
Dit oudbollige repertoire hebben we nu toch wel gezien.

Ik zag pas De Nieuwe snaar optreden in Hasselt , echt zeer goed, met een diepere ondertoon en niet zo platvloers als de oude Stoopkes
