About this Album:
This was Led Zeppelins ill received 3rd album released in 1970 this album alienated many of their due to the fact it contained many acoustic tracks and they had shied away from their first 2 albums blues-rock influences. However I think this is one of led zeppelin's greatest albums. The opening track is undoubtedly a rock classic, the immigrant song; Jimmy Page (lead guitarist) pulls out all the stops to deliver an amazing yet deceptively simple riff and John Bonham (drummer) pounds away at his skins to almost deafen the listener. The second track the acoustic "friends" has some excellent playing from all members and Robert Plant's vocals are on top form. On the third track Led Zeppelin hit a groove which no other band can. John Paul Jones intricate bass lines keep the band together and give jimmy page the freedom play whatever he liked and he does by packing in an amazing fiery solo. The 4th song, Since I've Been Loving You, has some of Robert Plant's best vocals and has an amazingly toned solo. The 5th song "out on the tiles" includes one of jimmy pages best riffs and is one of tom molrellos (guitarist, Rage against the Machine, Audioslave) favourite. The 6th song is an old traditional blues song originally done by lead belly, this is my favourite song off the album and it has the best chorus' ever (it contains a mandolin). The 7th track is the gentle Tangerine which has Robert Plant reminiscing of a summers day and has some of jimmy pages most heartfelt playing and solo. Thats the way,the 8th song , ploughs very much the furrow as Tangerine although it is slightly harsher. The penultimate song Bron-y-aur stomp this showcases jimmy speed and this song is named after the cottage (bron-y-aur) where most of the album was written. The last song is Hats of to (Roy) Harper this has some of Robert Plants strangest vocals and Jimmys most diverse playing. The sound quality in not amazing but it does the job also it from 1970 and i cannot compete with todays recording equipment. The cover on the album is by far Led Zeppelins best.
