He tunes his Low E down to C and uses slap triplets to mimick the slap bass aspect of the song...my friend showed me how to play it but the slap triplets alone are hell to play....I know it seems impossible but the man is a genius...really...keep tryin'

That guy was a total ass, i think maybe he might have his bass strings tuned like mad low b/c he plays it all when he's live i don't think theres another one unless that guy is hiding somewheres backstage.

all of you are wrong, what's done is this...John drinks three to four red bulls and then after that tunes his guitar, but the trick is wait i can't tell you that...John kicks ass!

download any performance of neon and you will see for yourself there is no other guitar, the bass notes are played using thumb taps, its really interesting to watch him play the song !

im getting there but its a very very hard song to play !

John has a special guitar with the low E tuned really, really low, to get the sound that we know and love. to see a pic here's a link, will most likely have to copy and paste it..

Whoever made the comment about maybe more than one guitar playing the part, you should check john out live, or download a live performance of him playing neon. You'll see that he plays the entire thing very clean, and with ease.

I've listened to the song a lot, and i think that the low notes are either the bass or another guitar, because it is not possible for the low notes to have the clear, warm tone they do, and the high notes all punchy and mid-ranged. Something has to be different.
