Edith Piaf - Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien English translation lyrics

About this lyric:

ça commence avec toi

(and NOT toil)

No, I regret nothing

No, absolutely nothing
No, I regret nothing
Not the good that has been given
Not the bad, it's all the same to me

No, absolutely nothing
No, I regret nothing
It is payed, done, forgotten
I don't care about the past

With my memories
I light the fire
My pains, my pleasures
I don't need them anymore
I'm done with the loves
and all their troubles
I'm done for ever
I start over with nothing

No, absolutely nothing
No, I regret nothing
Not the good that has been given
Not the bad, it's all the same to me
No, absolutely nothing
No, I regret nothing
Because my life, because my joys
today, they start with you

Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien

Non, rien de rien
Non, je ne regrette rien
Ni le bien qu'on m'a fait
Ni le mal, tout ça m'est bien égal

Non, rien de rien
Non, je ne regrette rien
C'est payé, balayé, oublié
je me fous du passé

Avec mes souvenirs
J'ai allumé le feu
Mes chagrins, mes plaisirs
je n'ai plus besoin d'eux
Balayés les amours
avec leurs tremolos
Balayés pour toujours
Je repârs à zéro

Non, rien de rien
Non, je ne regrette rien
Ni le bien qu'on m'a fait
Ni le mal, tout ça m'est bien égal
Non, rien de rien
Non, je ne regrette rien
Car ma vie, car mes joies
aujourd'hui, ça commence avec toil

I always believed the last phrase was "sacrament avec toi!"
Probably listening to too many Quebecois

People, why squabble over some error in the translation?
Be happy someone did and you can understand what this song is all about.
I meet her, we had coffee and neither of us spoke eithers language, but we understood each other.
We hugged and all is now memory.
listen to the music, the lyrics if you can; but NEVER put any translation down.
it is how people feel when they hear this song and that is what they translate.
Be Happy, you can listen to this music, BE HAPPY!!

This song makes me cry. I read about her, and want to think that she has no regrets for anything that has happened. She just wants to look ahead, with hope. She had such a short life. I wish I could have known her.

The above is not a very good translation. For example, you have missed the part where she uses the verb to sweep. She is "sweeping" all of the bad away. It's so beautiful. You miss the thrust of the song, where she is repeatedly emphasizing that she simply doesn't care what has happened. Doesn't capture the depth of it in the translation.

I’m not going to go through it line by line, but for the beginning to me it’s....

No, nothing at all
No, I regret nothing

Take the I’m out before the dones, and don’t use nothing again where she uses zero there, she changes words, so we should too. So...

Done with the lovers
and all their troubles
Done forever
I’ll start from scratch

This translation is mediocre at best, mostly because of the poor command of English and the inadequate ability to convey nuance.

There are a few English translations but I'm having a hard time finding one that conveys the true meaning as well as sounds good. I'm going with: "No I regret nothing, no I regret nothing at all. Not the mistakes that I've made, nor the bad, and what has become.". I am open to suggestions!

i am listening to Edith Piaf singing a beautiful song this song is called in French No Je Ne
Regrette Rien This Song is also in English and it is called No I Regret Nothing the lyrics are beautiful in English
