Dorette Roos

Dorette Roos completed her Master of Music degree in performance at the University of Stellenbosch, where she was a student of Dalena Roux. In 2009, she furthered her studies with Professor Heidi Litschauer at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. In June 2007, she graduated with a Bachelor of Music from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in the United States, where she studied mainly with Cathy Meints of the Cleveland Orchestra. At Oberlin, Dorette also excelled in baroque cello and performed with her baroque ensemble on several occasions for National Public Radio. She returned to South Africa in 2007, joining the CPO the following year and then taking a break to go study in Salzburg as part of her master’s degree, rejoining in 2009. In January 2011, Dorette founded her own business, Play Music, performing and organising music for events and weddings. In 2013, she became the music coordinator for The Aleit Group, managing Aleit Music and Entertainment. Dorette is also involved in film and theatre productions, as well as in various chamber music events and teaches theory at the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra Academy.
