Abel

Abel - Onderweg English translation lyrics

Your rating:

On my way

I close the door
Streets seem to be crying
clouds seem to be fleeing
I get on the bus
People seem to be looking
But I want to avoid them
Before they even see me

It belongs to the past
That you didn't forget my birthday
That you unconditionally chose me

I see the fields
Houses pass me by
It's quiet behind the windows
Who can see me
In blue lit trains
Your heart is so close to me
But it doesn't seem right/There's no heartbeat (in Dutch, this lyric can mean either of those)

It belongs to the past
Your black hair and your laugh
That you were the world to me
It's still deep inside of me
That I could share what you had
That you ran your fingers through my hair and said:

You don't recognize my voice
Who I am is what you see now
Do you want to dance with illusions
In (your) thoughts
Are you further than the present?
Do you want to go back to the past?
Does that ring a bell?

It belongs to the past (tense)
Red wine on a terrace
That you were the world to me
It's still deep inside of me
But I forgot how you saw me
That I'm so different from you

I walk into the street
but it will never warm me
Because it can't embrace me
Who would see me?
Most of all, I would like to scream
I would want to scream forever
But I can't

You are not just mine
I can show the world
that it might be better this way
It belongs to the past
And I forgot how you saw me
That I am so different from you

Onderweg

Ik doe de deur dicht
Straten lijken te huilen
Wolken lijken te vluchten
Ik stap de bus in
Mensen lijken te kijken
Maar ik wil ze ontwijken
Voordat ze mij zien

Het is allang verleden tijd
Dat je mijn verjaardag niet vergat
Je onvoorwaardelijk koos voor mij

Ik zie de velden
Langs me heen gaan huizen
Het is stil achter de ruiten
Wie kan mij zien
In blauw verlichte treinen

In gedachten

Just wanted to say to Matrix the GayGeek - great job man. U're awesome.

Please consider my translation preserving rhyme and metre (posted at http://www.allthelyrics.com/forum/showt ... ?t=40102#4 ) :

I made a translation which adheres to/preserves the song's metre (and original syllable count) & rhyme and also whenever possible I tried to refrain from my own interpretation/uphold any ambiguity whenever I believed it was (intentionally) in there. Of course, that is an interpretation by default.

Abel – In transit

I’m closing my front door
Streets appear to be crying
Clouds appear to be fleeing
I walk through the bus door
People appear to be peering,
It’s their looks I keep avoiding
Before they see me.

It’s all been a long time ago
When you recalled when I was born,
And unconditionally chose me.

I see the meadows
A grid of houses follows
No sound behind the windows
Who can see me
In trains sparsely light by blue glows?
Your heart seem to be close
Yet it’s not beating.

It’s all a long time ago
When it was your smile I’d longue to see
And you meant everything to me
It’s still far too deep in me
That I could share in what you had
You flicked my hair and then said,

“You don’t know how my voice sounds
What I am is what you see now
Would you dance with illusions?
Deep in your mind
You are further than the present
Back in the past is where your mind went
Does it sound familiar?”

It’s all been a long time ago
Drinking red wine both you and me
And you meant everything to me
It’s still far too deep in me
You didn’t see me as I do
I’m so much different than you

I cross the alley
But it will never make me feel warm
Because it can’t hold me in its arms
Who would see me?
I would like just to holler
Utter and endless lasting holler
Instead I falter

You’re not exclusive to me, oh no!
It’s to the world I could attest
That this is probably for the best.
It’s all been a long time ago
You didn’t see me as I do
I’m so much different than you
