Auld Lang Syne means literally "old/long/then" or times long past. I've put it in the key of D because it's easier to sing and play that way....a serious consideration if you've had a "richt gude willie waught" or a few too many drafts of ale for goodwill! D A7 D G Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And never brought to mind D A7 Bm (A7) D Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And days of auld lang syne CHORUS 1: A7 D G For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne D A7 D A7 D We'll take a cup o'kindness now, for auld lang syne. VERSE 2: We two hae paidelt in the burn Frae mornin- sun till dine (have paddled in the brook from morning sun till dinner) But seas between us braid hae roared sin'auld lang syne (broad have roared since times long gone) REPEAT Chorus 1 VERSE 3: We twa hae run a-bout the braes, And pu'd the gowans fine; (two have run about the hillsides, and pulled the daisies fine) We've wandered mony a weary foot, Sin'auld lang syne VERSE 4: And here's a hand my trusty fere, And gi?s a hand of thine, (friend) We'll tak'a richt gude willie waught, For auld lang syne (good will/draft of ale) VERSE 5: And surely ye'll be your pint-stoup, And surely I'll be mine (pine flagon of ale) We'll take a cup of kindness yet, for the sake of auld lang syne Final CHORUS 2: For auld lang syne my dear, For auld lang syne We'll tak'a cup o'kindness yet, for the days of auld lang syne For auld lang syne my dear, For auld lang syne, We'll take a cup of kindness yet for auld lang syne. ---------------------------------------------------- (you did know that this song originally had nothing to do with new year's!
