System of a Down Tuning without tuner. By: Cam Moen(matrix) e-mail: solid_snake9q@hotmail.com This is for the people that dont have guitar tuners and want to tune their guitar to S.O.A.D's tuning. Most of their sons are played in the tuning CGCFAd (low to high) now you could use a tuner and tune all your strings down using that or use this meathod: Your guitar has to be in standard tuning to do this right. 1. put your finger on 3rd fret on string 2(B) and tune string 1(e) to it. Get it to sound exactly the same. (remember you are tuning all strings down) 2. Now put your finger behind the 5th on string 2 and tune that to the first string wich is now d. 3. Next, put your finger on 4th on string 3 and tune it so it sounds the same as string 2 wich is now A 4. Put your finger on 5 of string 4. Tune it to string 3 wich is now F 5. repeat step 4 for the next string. String 4 will now be C 6. This time is different. fut your finger on the 7th fret on the 6th string and tune it to the fifth string wich is now G. There you go you are done and ready to play some great songs. Any ?'s or if you are confused e-mail me.

Sorry, don't read my other 2 comments. I got it all wrong.
1.Tune 1st string to 12th fret of 4th string (EADGBD)
2. Tune strings 2-5 normally (EGCFAD)
3. Tune 6th string on 12th fret to open 4th string, and you get CGCFAD.
I had my strings backwards, and I called string 6 string 1 before.

Sorry, for step 3, I meant to say the 6th string, not first.

Here's how I do it:
- Tune the 1st string to the 12th fret of the 4th string, so now you have EADGBD
- Tune strings 2-5 as normal, so you get EGCFAD
- Tune the 1st string on the 12th fret to the 3rd string open, so you get the tuning, CGCFAD.
Granted, nobody's ears are perfect, so you may end up a bit sharp or flat, so it's best to use a tuner if you have one. Also, if you're a fan of Godsmack, they use this tuning, too.
