I woke up in Oregon and fell asleep in Ohio.
I was 35,000 feet above you.
And the very first thing that I could recall was the January snow,
Glistening beneath the runway lights.
And it all came back like a panic attack and I was frozen in my seat,
Straining to control this nervous energy.
How long have I been gone? How much has changed?
Oh I wish that everything stayed exactly the same forever.
But there’s no challenge in familiarity.
These dreams are just plans without deadlines.

And I saw your face so completely displaced but undeniably at peace,
And I hope you felt the same when you saw me.
And it was strange, everything was exactly the same
And simultaneously completely different,
Like a parallel universe of sorts.
I said “I’m glad that you got out while you still could”
You said “I’m glad I wasn’t so misunderstood”
And I smiled and said “hey man, I’ll see ya in the summertime.”
