Shahmaran is een Iraans woord. Het is een naam en betekent Koningin van de Slangen. Het is een mythologisch wezen, half vrouw en half slang. Er gaan heel wat verhalen over haar rond. In Turkije gelooft men dat Shahmaran in de stad Tarsus leeft. O.a Wikipedia heeft veel informatie.
