Dit lied gaat over Tanks. In Nederland sprak men tot aan de Tweede Wereldoorlog over Vechtwagens. Het woord Tank is uiteraard een Engels woord. Het woord is afkomstig van 'watertank'. (Engelse uitspraak). Het voertuig werd ontwikkeld als een geheim wapen. Niemand die het mocht weten. De arbeiders die er aan bouwden werden verteld dat zij watertanks maakten.
Tanks werden voor het eerst ingezet tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog. Dat gebeurde op 15 september 1916 tijdens de Slag om de Somme. Van die tanks moet je je niet al te veel voorstellen. Het waren niet meer dan metalen dozen op rupsbanden.
Flers is een gemeente in de streek Somme waar een Britse begraafplaats is met overledenen uit WO1. Er liggen daar 3.475 gesneuvelden begraven.
Flers-Courcelette is de Slag bij Flers-Courcelette. Exact de plaats waar de tanks voor het eerst werden ingezet
Villers-Bretonneux is de Slag bij Villers-Bretonneux. Daar stonden voor het eerst tanks tegenover elkaar: Britse en Duitse.
