Paul en Linda schreven dit lied toen zij op vakantie waren op hun boerderij in Mull of Kintyre.
De vraag is wie die 'dear boy' is. John Lennon meende dat hij de 'dear boy' was en 'she' Yoko Ono. Vele jaren later verklaarde Paul dat de vrouw Linda is en de 'dear boy' Joseph Melville See Jr., Linda's vroegere echtgenoot.
Toen Paul met Linda op hun boerderij vakantie vierden, besefte Paul ineens 'how lucky he was to have Linda'.

Het bekende lied 'Mull of Kintyre' schreef hij in de tijd dat hij deel uitmaakte van de band 'Wings'.
