As it fell out all on the day rich Divers held a feast

And he invited all his friends and gentry of the best

As it fell out all on a day Lazarus he was so poor

He went and laid him down and down right down at Divers door



And Lazarus laid him down and down right down at Divers door

Some meat some drink brother Divers or surely starve I shall

You are none of mine brother Lazarus lying begging at my door

No meat nor drink shall I give to thee and so surely starve you shall



And so Divers sent out out his merry men all for to whip poor Lazarus away

They had not the power to whip one whip but they threw their whips away

So Divers sent out his hungry dogs for to bite poor Lazarus away

They had not the power to bite one bite but they licked his wounds away



As it fell out all on a day Lazarus he sickened and died

There came two angels out of Heaven his soul thereto to guide

Rise up rise up brother Lazarus and go along with me

There is a place prepared in Heaven for you to sit upon an angel's knee



And it fell out all on one day Divers he sickened and died

There came two serpents out of hell his soul thereto to guide

Rise up rise up brother Divers and go along with me

There is a place prepared in Hell for you to rot in purgatory
