man, I just wanna play this song, I'm too busy
with girls and bars to learn these crazy chords, why can't they just be Cm Caddd9, F# man...like

heres how to read those charts:
say you're playing C major chord (assuming you know how to) the notation would be this : x32010. you read it from left to right, going up the strings. it's like tab sort of. therefore the first symbol you see in reading the chord from left to right would symbolize what to play for the 6th string E. like this (C chord again):
E A D G B E (open strings)
x 3 2 0 1 0 (C chord)
the x means you play the E string open, the 3 means you play the third fret of the A string, the 2 means you play the second fret, the 0 means play the G string open, the 1 means play the first fret of the B string, and the 0 means play the high E string open.
