Een oud Schots volkslied uit de 19de eeuw dat het verhaal verteld van Bonnie Prince Charles die, vermomd als een dienstbode en met de hulp van Flora MacDonald, weet te ontsnappen naar het eiland Skye.

Bonnie Prince Charles heet in werkelijkheid Charles Edward Stuart. Hij probeerde vanuit Schotland de Britse troon te veroveren. Maar bij 'de slag bij Culloden' (1746) werd zijn leger verslagen door de Engelse troepen. Hij moest vluchten. Flora, dochter van zijn vriend en medestrijder, regelde een boot voor hem. Flora werd daarbij betrapt en gevangen gezet, maar haar gevangenschap was slechts van korte duur. Bonnie ontsnapte, vermomd, naar het eiland Skye. Dat eiland ligt ten noord-westen van Schotland. Vandaar vluchtte hij naar Frankrijk. Uiteindelijk kwam hij in Italie terecht waar in 1788 te Rome stierf.
