Over deze songtekst:
Dit lied heet ook wel 'Beautiful Savior'.
Er wordt gezegd dat de Duitse kruisvaarders dit lied zongen op weg naar het Heilige Land in de tijd van de Kruistochten. Zij noemden het 'Crusader's Hymn' maar er zijn ook historici die dit afwijzen. Er is ook geen bewijs.
Wat wel waar is, is dat dit lied van origine een Duits lied is en voor het eerst geprint/gedrukt werd in 1842. De titel was 'Schönster Herr Jesu'. Jens C. Aaberg vertaalde het lied in het Engels.
Het lied telt nog 2 coupletten. Dat zijn de volgende:
