Het lied gaat over een toneelstuk van Henry Ibsen, getiteld 'The Doll House'. Een van de hoofdpersonen is Nora (Dora is een zinsspeling daarop) die door haar man behandeld wordt alsof zij een 'ding' is. Hij bepaalt alles voor haar, want hij wil een perfecte vrouw. Perfect in zijn ogen althans. En aldus is zij meer een 'pop', dan een persoon voor hem.
