I believe that some of those D/F#'s are actually DMaj7's (particularly the chorus line that ends with "rolling"). You really need to listen carefully for the C# that colours this chord in parts of the song.

The DMaj7 that I use for this is (xx0222) but you could but the F# in the bass as well and even add the open E as in this version.
