Here's Smokin'. The trick to the intro riff is the strumming pattern. The second fret barred stuff gets the upstroke. The open A's get the downstroke. So your picking hand should be strumming with a swing feeling. It's hard to explain. For more stuff like this, check out Billy Gibbons in ZZ Top's "La Grange". Same thing.
