The song then jumps to the beginning of the chorus. Solo: From Guitar World Magazine, December 2002 GUITAR WORLD: The solo for "What You Are" is cool. There's a filtered wah sound that alternates with some kind of pitch bend sound. TOM MORELLO: That's all one performance, with a wah-wah pedal. It's three parts. The initial "waooh" is a low B and it's followed by hitting all the string above the nut, which makes sort of a high-end sound. Then the third part is with the whammy pedal set to a fifth, and I'm just manipulating the whammy bar on the guitar to play that little shaky melody. Then, at the end of each of the phrases, that's just toggling while making the bar go through the sweep of the pedal. It sounds much more complicated than it is. -- Whatever, Tom!
