Henry Francis Lyte schreef dit lied in 1847 op zijn sterfbed. Hij leed aan tuberculose. Het lied is een gebed waarin gevraagd wordt of God bij je blijft tijdens je leven, tijdens de beproevingen en als je sterft. 'Abide with me' betekent 'Blijf mij trouw'.
In het Nederlands kennen wij het lied als 'Blijf bij ons Heer'.

Zoals de video ook aangeeft, zingt Amy niet alle coupletten. De coupletten die ze niet zingt zijn:
