Walter Trout - No Magic (On the Street) lyrics

Your rating:

I went walking down Main Street and it felt so strange
It was so familiar, yet so much had changed
A lot of people they’re all moving to and fro
But I couldn’t find anybody that I know
It’s a city made of concrete, brick, and wood
I guess the good ol’ days, they weren’t really all that good
I know I’m old and I’m tried and beat
But there ain’t no more magic out here on the street

Here on these mean streets is where I was raised
A lot of shady people, lots of crazy days
There was danger and laughter and lessons to be learned
Somebody’s selling something
And somebody is getting burned
Out on the street somebody’s begging for a meal
And back in the alley they’re working on a deal
Now I’m too old to even up the score
But there ain’t no magic on this street anymore

These days to be a hero you just got to stay alive
Make it through the madness and merely survive
I may be wrong, but it seems to me
That Main Street just ain’t what it used to be
All the locals I know, now they’re dead and gone
But I’m out here and I’m moving on
Well, I got a nasty feeling I can’t ignore
But there ain’t no magic on the street anymore
You never get back to who you were before
‘Cos there ain’t no magic on the street anymore
