<p>Frans en Eddy Markon kwamen in hun jeugd vanuit Slovenië naar Nederland.<br /> Eenmaal in Limburg begonnen ze met het maken van muziek. Ze deden daarbij inspiratie op van verschillende landgenoten die ook in Nederland woonden. Ook was er een muzikale Nederlandse kennis. Vlak voor de oorlog ontstond het Trio Markonis. Het trio bestond uit de broers Frans en Eddy Markon (Wiener accordeon) en Stanley Sterman (gitaar.) Stanley was een zwager van Frans en Eddy. Eind jaren 40, begin jaren 50 werd de naam gewijzigd in de Sloveense Limburgers. Niet lang daarna werd de bezetting uitgebreid. De Italiaan Bernardi kwam de gelederen versterken met saxofoon, klarinet en zang. Men noemde zich Orchester Bele Zvezde. Toen later het orkest werd uitgebreid met pianist Adriaansen en zanger & bassist Piet de Munter werd de naam gewijzigd in The White Stars. Bijna alle orkestleden waren werkzaam in de Limburgse mijnen. Dit drukte een stempel op het orkest. Het is een traditie dat mijnwerkers na een dag van duisternis en harde arbeid zich met hart en ziel uitleven in muzikale kunst. Voor Frans, Eddy en de andere bandleden was het een moment van zorgeloze ontspanning. De vlotte polka’s werden met een bepaalde blijheid gebracht. De melancholieke walsen zorgden voor een moment van ontroering. In Limburg en omgeving bouwde het orkest in de loop der jaren een goede naam op. Nadat er grammofoonplaten verschenen kregen ze ook bekendheid door het hele land met hun polka’s en walsen. Toch kwam er een einde aan de White Stars. Niet lang daarna gingen Frans en Eddy Markon verder als Duo Markon. Op het repertoire van de broers stond eigen werk, bewerkingen van traditionele Sloveense muziek, en composities van Frankie Yankovic, Slavko Avsenik, Johnny Pecon, Jean Kraft en Johnny Hoes.
