Status Quo - Twenty Wild Horses guitar tab

tabbed marcus lubbock status quo twenty wild horses The opener of Under The Influence. It hasn't got a drive as most of the songs of this album but it's a good song. I like the lyrics. I wrote it down in C sharp, but I could have written it down in D-flat just as well. 1. Chords and rythm The basic rhythm during the song (except for the intro and first verse) sounds like this: 1 + + 2 + + 3 + + 4 + + E||--------------------------|| B||*------------------------*|| G||--------------------------|| D||-4---4-4-4-4-4---4-4-4-4--|| A||*4---4-4-4-4-4---4-4-4-4-*|| E||-2---2-2-2-2-2---2-2-2-2--|| d u d u d d u d u d . . play notes above dots short! . Tabs Intro: Rythm guitar For the intro-part you have to emphasize every first not of the triplet As far as I can hear it's played with alternated up and down strokes so you have to emphasize upstrokes to. This is the pattern: > > > > > = the note that has to be emphasized dud udu dud udu This may require some practice but once mastered you can use it in other quo-songs too. 1 + + 2 + + 3 + + 4 + + 1 + + 2 + + 3 + + 4 + + E||------------------------|------------------------|| B||------9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-|9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-7-7-7-|| G||6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-|6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-|| D||6-----------------------|------------------------|| A||------------------------|------------------------|| E||------------------------|------------------------|| 1 + + 2 + + 3 + + 4 + + 1 + + 2 + + 3 + + 4 + + E||------------------------|------------------------|| B||9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-|9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-7-7-7-|| G||6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-|6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-|| D||----6-------------------|------------------------|| A||------------------------|------------------------|| E||------------------------|------------------------|| 3x 1 + + 2 + + 3 + + 4 + + 1 + + 2 + + 3 + + 4 + + E||-------------------------|-------------------------|| B||*9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-|9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-7-7-7-*|| G||-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-|6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6--|| the 3rd time, D||-6-----------------------|-------------------------|| replace last bar A||*------------------------|------------------------*|| by bar hereunder E||-------------------------|-------------------------|| E|------------------------| B|9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-7-----| Hold chord ad lib. As far as I can hear, two guitars are picking separate intervals of the chords I gave above for verse one. Taking this as a starting-point I come to the conclusion that the two guitars are playing the following notes: E|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--||--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|| B|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--||--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|| Guitar 1 G|11|11|13|13|11|11|11|13||11|11|13|13|11|11|13|11|| D|11|11|11|11|9-|9-|9-|11||11|11|11|11|9-|9-|11|11|| A|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--||--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|| E|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--||--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|| E|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--||--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|| B|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--||--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|| Guitar 2 G|--|--|--|--|9-|9-|--|--||--|--|--|--|9-|--|--|11|| D|11|11|11|11|9-|9-|11|11||11|11|11|11|9-|11|11|11|| A|9-|9-|11|11|--|--|9-|11||9-|9-|11|11|--|9-|9-|9-|| E|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--||--|--|--|--|--|--|--|--|| Only the two guitars together are making the chords. So if you want to play it on your own you can make a mixture (see the chords I indicated for verse 1). I play the intervals like this: E|------------------------------------| B|------------------------------------| G|11-11-11----11----11-11-11----11----| D|---------11----11----------11----11-| A|------------------------------------| E|------------------------------------| Here will follow the bars between the intro and verse one: E|--|-----------------------------------| B|--|-----------------------------------| G|6/|11---11----11----11-11-11----11----| D|6/|11------11----11----------11----11-| A|--|-----------------------------------| E|--|-----------------------------------| 2x E||-------------------------------------|| B||*------------------------------------|| G||-11-11-11----11----11-11-11----11----|| D||----------11----11----------11----11-|| A||*------------------------------------|| E||-------------------------------------|| Chorus: You can find the chords and rhythm of the chorus above. During the second and third chorus the other guitar is playing the full chords on the first beat and keeps it ringing for two bars and strikes the other chord. Break: I can't really hear the guitarparts during the break 'cause it's absorbed in the totalsound. I think one guitar is pumping the powerchords (G#5, C#5) and the other one is strumming the full chords with a cleaner sound. That's an important thing to know by the way. When you want richer chords but also powerchords, play the powerchord with a distorted guitar and the full chords with a clean guitar. Some full chords sound awful on a distorted guitar (try for example Cmaj7 X3545X). You find it above. During the F#5 chords the same pattern is played in the 11th position.
