Waka Waka is the official song for the FIFA World Cup 2010 which took place between 11 June and 11 July 2010 in South Africa.
Shakira samples an African song, Zangalewa, and keeps the African voices in the chorus.
Zangalewa is part of the repertoire of soldiers, but also of youth groups like Scouts, throughout Africa. Its rhythm is catchy and it can serve as marching song.
It was popularized by the Cameroonian military band Golden Sounds in 1986. It was such a success that he changed his name Zangalewa. It is sometimes called Zamina undermined by the first words.
Shakira participated in June 2010, at the opening concert of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa with other artists like Alicia Keys, John Legend and the Black Eyed Peas.
