Don't Know Why

performed by Norah Jones on her albums "First
Sessions", "Come Away With Me"
composed by Jesse Harris

transcribed by Michael Blake (All work his own).

The guitar part is played on nylon strings. Emphasis
is on the descending chromatic line from the A down to
the D. The M7 D7 6 and 9 chords highlight this line,
as well as the Eb Major to Eb minor change in the
second bar.

The song is in the form AABABAA with a piano solo on
the second to last A section.

Sorry about the alignment of the piano chords above, before I submitted it, it was perfectly aligned and segmented, but when it appeared, it went all close together. You should be able to work it out though. - Shelley.

For those who play piano or keyboard, I figured out the following chords, which sound good if you're playing this song 'solo'. These chords may sound good with guitar aswell. Okay, the following chord is an example of how to play all of the chords:

Bb (chord title)
Bb/FBbD
play with L hand/play with R hand

*

Bb Dm Eb
Bb/FBbD D/FAD Eb/GBbEb
V1: I waited 'til I saw the sun.

Ebm Gm7 C
Eb/GbBbEb G/FGBbD C/GCE
I don't know why I

F7 Bb Dm
F/FACEb Bb/FBbD D/FAD
didn't come. I left you by the

Eb Ebm Gm7
Eb/GBbEb Eb/GbBbEb G/FGBbD
house of fun. I don't know

E F7 Gm7
C/GCE F/FACEb G/FGBbD
why I didn't come. I don't know

C F7 Bb
C/GCE F/FACEb Bb/FBbD
why I didn't come. V2: When I

Dm Eb Ebm
D/FAD Eb/GBbEb Eb/GbBbEb
saw the break of day

Gm7 C F7
G/FGBbD C/GCE F/FACEb
I wished that I could fly away

Bb Dm Eb
Bb/FBbD D/FAD Eb/GBbEb
Instead of kneeling in the sand

Ebm Gm7 C
Eb/GbBbEb G/FGBbD C/GCE
catching teardrops

F7 Bb Gm7
F/FACEb Bb/FBbD G/FGBbD
in my hand. CH: My heart is

C7 F Adim
C/GBbCE F/ACF F/ACEb
drenched in wine. But

Gm7 C7 F
G/FGBbD C/GBbCE F/ACF
you'll be on my mind

Eb Dm F7
Eb/GBbEb D/FAD F/FACEb
for- ev- er.

You may be able to figure it out from there.
If you want the whole version 'CopyChord' style, I will send it to you via email. I devised the CopyChord method of piano accompaniment in 2000. No-one sells sheet music like this that I know of. It's got to be the easiest way of playing piano accompaniment known to mankind. It's similar to the above, but with added 'structure'. Soon I'm sure they'll be writing out and selling music this style and wondering why they never thought of it before (but you guys in guitar land have had this sort of thing for a while).
