Artist: Jimi Hendrix Song: Remember Album: Are You Experienced? Submitted by: John Heinzl, johnheinzl@rogers.com No lighter fluid required for this one. It's just a sweet, bouncy tune with a nice helping of Jimi's signature licks. Note: Leave your guitar in standard tuning. Jimi may have tuned down a half-step on the record, but I've written it as if he was using standard tuning so you don't have to go twisting your pegs all day. Questions, comments welcome. / = slide up \ = slide down b = bend r = release bend h = hammer-on p = pull-off v = vibrato INTRO: E--------------------------------------------------------------- B--------------------------------------------9--9\7------------- G----8/10\8/10----8-------8------------------8--8\6----6------6- D----8/10\8/10----8h10p8--8---------6--8/10--10-10\8---6-6----6- A-----------------------11--8---6/8----------------------6h8---- E--------------------------------------------------------------- Oh, re... The above patterns form the core of the first two verses. Listen to the song a few times and you should have no trouble figuring out where to play the Ab, Eb7 and Db7. After the first two verses, there's a bridge: E------------------------------------------------------------- B------------------------------------------------------------- G--8-8-8-8-8-8-etc.-------------------------6-6-6-6-6-6-etc.-- D--8-8-8-8-8-8-etc.-------------------------5-5-5-5-5-5-etc.-- A--6-6-6-6-6-6-etc.-------------------------6-6-6-6-6-6-etc.-- E------------------------------------------------------------- Hey, pretty baby... Make everybody... After the bridge, the song continues in the same pattern as the first two verses, except everything is moved up two frets. The first chord for this part is Bb major. The solo during this section goes like this: E-------------------------------6---6---6----------------------- B-6v-6v-etc---------6v-6h8------6h8-6h8-6h8p6--4------4--------- G---------------5-7----------------------------3h5p3--3h5p3--5-- D------------5/7------------------------------------5------5---5 A----------8---------------------------------------------------- E--------------------------------------------------------------- E-6-----------------------6------6----------6---------- B-6h8p6---6-------------6---9b11--9p6------6--9p6------ G---------5h7p5----8b10---------------8b10--------8b10v (hold) D--------------8--------------------------------------- A------------------------------------------------------ E------------------------------------------------------ E-----9----9---8--8----6-6------------------------------------ B-------------------6----6h8p6--6------6---6------------------ G-(10)-(10)r--8--8--6h7---------5h7p5--5h7-5h7p5-------------- D------------------------------------8----------8-----8--8---- A-------------------------------------------------8/10-10-10\- E------------------------------------------------------------ Then it's back to the verse, starting on Bb major. There are hammer-on, pull-offs during this part, that correspond with the chords, like so: E--6-----------------------13------------------11------- B--6h8p6-------------------13h15p13------------11h13p11- G------------------------------------------------------- D------------------------------------------------------- A------------------------------------------------------- E------------------------------------------------------- As the song returns to the Bb chord, play Bb7 instead of Bb major. This signals that the song is about to change key again. Then slide up another fret and play B major, again following the same pattern as the other verses. There are more hammer-on, pull-offs here. The phrases are similar to the ones above, except with an extra hammer-on and pull-off. I think Jimi plays them at the 7th fret, 2nd fret and in the open position, like so: E--7--------------------2--------------------0---------- B--7h9p7h9p7------------2h4p2h4p2------------0h2p0h2p0-- G------------------------------------------------------- D------------------------------------------------------- A------------------------------------------------------- E------------------------------------------------------- The song fades out on F# major chord. Here are the main chords. You can slide these shapes around the neck to play the entire song: Ab major: Eb7: Db7: Bb7: E A D G B E E A D G B E E A D G B E E A D G B E 4 6 6 5 4 4 x 6 8 6 8 6 x 4 6 4 6 4 6 8 6 7 9 6 Peace and good luck. johnheinzl@rogers.com Feb. 23, 2002
