About this Album:

'Heroes In Red', a classic blues/rock song composed by Ike Moriz inspired by the Volunteer Wildfire Services during their fight against the incredible mountain fires in Cape Town in early March 2015. All single proceeds go to the VWS.

In the first week of March 2015 Cape Town made headlines worldwide due to a devastating fire that lasted more than 5 days and nights. Over 5 and a half thousand hectares of the Cape's beautiful landscape as well as 14 properties were affected with over 500 people being evacuated. The life of helicopter pilot and fire fighter Willem Hendrik 'Bees' Marais was lost while fighting a fire at Cape Point, a world-famous nature reserve.

Prolific singer and songwriter Ike Moriz (15 album releases) was deeply touched by the heroic efforts of the men and women fighting the Cape Town fires that he wrote this song on the day the helicopter pilot lost his life. In his own words: "Not only were we all overcome by the deepest respect for these courageous people, but I also felt a sense of powerlessness, not being able to support their efforts more effectively. Inspired by the events of early March that directly affected us here at our home in Hout Bay - one of the places heavily hit by the fires, this song demanded its existence. Proceeds will go to Volunteer Wildlife Services. The residents of Cape Town are filled with gratitude."
