Here's Smokin'. The trick to the intro riff is the strumming pattern.
The second fret barred stuff gets the upstroke. The open A's get the
downstroke. So your picking hand should be strumming with a swing
feeling. It's hard to explain. For more stuff like this, check out
Billy Gibbons in ZZ Top's "La Grange". Same thing. Any way, the rest
of the song is pretty self explanatory:

The 1. and 2. means that the A power chord gets played first time
through, and the G gets played second time. After the first chorus,
we go back to the intro/verse stuff. After  the second chorus, we
go to the bridge/solo:
