"Alice's Restaurant Massacree" by Arlo Guthrie
>From the album "The Best Of Arlo Guthrie"

Transcribed by - Daniel Schaumann

Here's the complete monologue to the 18 minutes and 30 second song
that is "Alice's Restaurant Massacree." I've worked out the tabs and
included them for the people out there who are mad enough to want to
sing this & play guitar at the same time (it can get bloody confusing
sometimes!)

The song is already in OLGA, thanks to Russ Shiptons and Mike Zraly,
but I've put my own version of the tabs in. I don't know if there
are any other versions that have been released, but mine is in the
key of D. I've included a different chord progression too.

The guitar bit (below) is just repeated over and over and over
throughout the song while Arlo talks. There is a part in the song
(just before the "very last man asks him if he's ever been arrested"
bit) where Arlo uses a diminished chord:

EADGBE
xx1212

and slides it up the neck to cause a little suspense in the song. He
then starts the guitar bit back up again slowly, and stops again - he
does this a couple of times in the song. You'll just have to listen
to it yourself if you want to know exactly where.

But anyway, enough of my blabbing on (which is exactly what Arlo does
in this song, and his American accent can get quite annoying if you're
an Aussie like me!) Please send any comments or updates to
dschaumann@hotmail.com. Have fun!

THE GUITAR BIT:

The song has a swing rhythm (one and a two and a three and a four and
a), and I've put the beats in between to help.

Arlo fingerpicks it with a capo on 2nd fret, therefor putting the song
in the key of D, but I'll act as if there was no capo and it was in C.
If the tabs are too hard to follow, just follow the chord progression
I've put down below, and also over certain parts of the lyrics.

The D7 chord can be played in the C7 position, but on the 3th fret
instead of the first. It sounds even better if you slide to it from
a C7 position on the 2th fret.

Da da da da da da da dum

      G C F C G C
