Eleanor Farjeon (1881 – 1965) was een Engelse schrijfster. Men vroeg haar een gedicht te maken passend bij een traditionele melodie, die bekend staat als 'Bunesan'. Bunesan is een dorp, gelegen op het eiland Mull, ten westen van Schotland. In feite is de melodie niet in het dorpje ontstaan. Een man, die luistert naar de naam Alexander Fraser, had de melodie in de Schotse Hooglanden gehoord en het naar Bunesan gebracht.
Eleanor maakte de tekst 'Morning Has Broken', die vooral door Cat Stevens, wereldwijd bekend werd.
'Morning Has Broken' is niet de eerste tekst gemaakt op deze melodie. Voor haar had Mary MacDonald (1789- 1872) al een tekst op deze melodie gemaakt. Een kerstlied, dat begon met de woorden 'Child in the manger, Infant of Mary'.
Third Day voegde onderstaande woorden toe:
'Morning has broken, like the first dawn
Sing Hallelujah, a new day is born'
