About this Album:

As an extreme fan of The Rasmus, I found this album to be a bit of a let down from Dead Letters. I honestly believed that the guys would come back with heavier, catchier riffs and more of their powerful lyrics. Eventhough some of the songs have a fair amount of decency to offer, I can't say that it's their best album.

Tracks:

The best tracks, in my opinion, would have to be 'Night After Night','Sail Away', 'Keep Your Heart Broken' and 'Don't Let Go'. These songs all offer catchy riffs and meaningful lyrics.

'Night After Night': The continuation of the gripping song 'In The Shadows'. This song begins with a cool intro that sets the song up to be a good one. This drops into a quiet but catchy verse and eventually goes into a loud, energetic chorus. It certainly got the crowd going at their gig!

Lauri's voice suits the song to perfection. It has almost a harmonious tone with a certain edge to it that really fits into the music. He lowers and raises his voice accordingly and it obviously aids the song to sound a lot better. This song is catchy, with some good drumming ang guitar/bass playing. The lyrics aren't as meaningful as 'In The Shadows'but I wouldn't say that they were meaningless all round. They do sum up its predecessor song.

'Sail Away': Such a sweet song! It brings little tears to even the eyes of me and I don't like crying! It has really heartfelt lyrics and there is no other word for them but 'cute'. The guitar playing in this is mellow and emotional. This song is just sock rocking! It's truly a work of art! Love it, absolutely amazing! Just listen to it a few times and I can almost gurantee that you will be hooked! It's a very gentle song that just buries itself into your heart and warms you up! It's very 'Still Standing'-esque. Powerful, gentle and very meaningful. Definately worth a listen!

'Keep Your Heart Broken': This song also starts well with what I refer to as 'a wall of sound'. The insrtuments calm into a catchy verse with lyrics that actually have a meaning! (Meanings are good, people often relate to songs via the lyrics... which often increases the popularity of the song!)The guitar riff is fairly catchy, not something that sticks in your head dramatically but you may find yourself humming it in the shower! It's not really a moshing type song but I wouldn't call it a pop song either... either way, there's definately something in there that makes it worth a listen!

'Don't Let Go': Wow. Lyrics wise, this song has it alone! It's a melancholic rock offer and Lauri sings gently for the entireity of the song. It's a powerful song throughout. The guitar playing is very catchy and the drum beat is also just as catchy. The added instrument (a piano) at the beginning really helps to set the scene for this brilliant song. This will undoubtably have you singing along in no time. It's not as jumpy and energetic as other songs but it's truly powerful and definately worth listening to!

So, after that chunk of praise, I now must disect the not so brilliant parts of the album. The other songs aren't all that they are cracked up to be. Energetic and loud intros often lead nowhere as the songs flare up fully which comes as quite a dissappointment. I personally think Lauri's voice could have been amplified more and stretched further as the songs do become quite plain and dull after a while. If you want excellence, this is not the album to go for but that doesn't mean to say it's totally imperfect.

Album Cover/Contents:

Plain really. The butterfly is a nice Idea for the cover but it's pretty dull and boring. The contents of the booklet are lyrics... no band pictures which would have been lovely! I definately thing there should be some band pictures...

Overall rating:

I like this album but I don't love it. I think Dead Letters definately had more flare to it than Hide From The Sun. I think the guys are trying to either be too serious or too dark and it just doesn't suit them. If you really want a good TR album, I suggest that you go and buy Into or Dead Letters. If you are a rampant TR fan, this album is worth the buy but it's not all it's hyped up to be. I'd give it a 7/10.
