Tussen 1984 en 1988 was The Mudgang een legendarische garageband uit het Gentse. Deze groep was één van de eerste bands die zich lieten inspireren door The Gun Club, The Cramps, Stray Cats, Dream Syndicate, Iggy Pop e.a. grootheden. 
Op drums speelde Paul Brusseel, frontzanger/gitarist was Luc VandenBerghe, Steven Janssens 2e gitaar en Jo De Bondt op de bas. 
Later speelden een aantal leden bij bekende Belgische bands zoals Soapstone en TommEGunn(Luc VDB, Steven Janssens bij de Whodads, Daan, Mauro en Jo De Bondt bij ex-rockrallywinnaars Ze Noiz, the Pink Flowers en nu Ladyday. 
Anno 2008 is was de Mudgang back on stage met ex-Soapstoneleden en 2 leden van de oorspronkelijke Mudgang (Luc, Jo). Zaman (Ze-Noiz) speelde een tijdje tweede gitaar en zorgde voor een eerste live-CD. Kort daarna werd hij vervangen door Kurt Van Peteghem. 
In 2009 werd Maarten Keteleer (drums) vervangen door Kurt De Waele en begin 2012 vervoegde ex-drummer Paul Brusseel terug bij de band. 
Ooit speelde The Mudgang in het voorprogramma van Iggy Pop, La Muerte, The Lyres e.a. bekende of minder bekende groepen.
