I think this is a folk song; it was written by Marijohn Wilkin and Danny Dill. An Irish band called the Cheftains do a really great version of this same song with Mick Jagger doing the lead vocals. "Long Black Veil" by the Band E Ten years ago on a cold dark night B Am E There was someone killed 'neath the town hall light E There were few at the scene and they all did agree B Am E That the man who ran looked a lot like me. E The judge said, "Son, what is your alibi? B Am E If you were somewhere else then you won't have to die." E I said not a word though it meant my life, B Am E I had been in the arms of my best friend's wife. Am E Am E She walks these hills in a long black veil. Am E Am E She visits my grave when the night winds wail. E Am E E B Am Nobody knows, no, and nobody sees; nobody knows but me. E The scaffold was high and eternity near B Am E She stood in the crowd and shed not a tear E But sometimes at night when the cold wind moans B Am E In a long black veil she cries over my bones. She walks these hills in a long black veil She visits my grave where the night winds wail. Nobody knows, no, and nobody sees; nobody knows but me. submitted by Kyle Still
