I threw the bones in the fire when I knew the flesh was bitter. I read the message in the flames along the Two-hearted River. It said the dogs are coming fast, and their running from the storm, and they'd love to taste your blood just to keep them warm. Well I whispered to myself, should I stay or should I go? I looked across the river. I saw hungry eyes aglow. I said, "Hey there, wolf, you look gorgeous and ghastly." And she started cackling while the fire was crackling. So I took a burning ember, and I through it in her eye. That's when the river took us both, and I knew it was alive.
