DEACON BLUES Ah yes, another version of this late 70's Dan classic. The changes here are posted with the keyboard in mind however --allowing for more complex formations, and specific voicing that are indeed easier to play on a keyboard than on a guitar-- hence these rather unusual formations like Ebmaj7-5/F etc. Hopefully to the keyboardist, an even more accurate description of the recorded music is the result here, as he is no longer is restricted to the limitations of guitar chord descriptions. Also this version plays from beginning to end as one continuous 'play-along' chart for the entire work. The chords often aren't QUITE the same on the recording in each chorus and verse, and the player need no longer shuffle pages around searching for codas, repeat chorus, verse etc.( I'm certain I'm not the only one who has been annoyed by this! )-just go to the next page. small case letters above chord symbols indicate individual notes: c4: middle C, and notes above in that octave... c5: C above middle C c3: C below middle C etc. numbers behind notes will only be indicated when notes enter another octave or begin a new line g4 g f f Cmaj7 Bm7+5 Bbmaj7 Am7+5 rhodes: a4 a g g c5 g4 g g g# c5 d g g# c6 d g Dmaj7 Dbm7+5 Cmaj7 Bm7+5 Ebmaj6/9 E7+9+5 G6 Dsus4/F This is the day G/A Ebmaj7-5/F Of the expanding man G6 F6 That shape is my shade G/A Cmaj7-5/D There where I used to stand Fmaj9 E7-9 Am7 It seems like only yesterday Bb13 I gazed through the glass E7 At ramblers B7(no5) Wild gamblers Dm/B E7 Bm7-5/F E7+9+5 That's all in the past G13 Ebmaj7-5/F You call me a fool b4 a d5 c G/A F13-5add9 You say it's a crazy scheme G13 F13 This one's for real Gmaj7/A A13 I already bought the dream Fmaj9 E7-9 So useless to ask me why a4 ab g Am7 Gm7 Bbmaj7/C Gb9+5 Fmaj9 Throw a kiss and say goodbye C/E I'll make it this time D9 Fmaj7/G F/G I'm ready to cross that fine line Am7 Em7 I'll learn to work the saxophone Dm7 Cmaj7 I'll play just what I feel c4 c Bbmaj9 Am7 G6 Gb7-5 Fmaj7 Drink Scotch whisky all night long C/E Fmaj7 Am7 And die be hind the wheel Em7 They got a name for the winners in the world Dm7 Cmaj7 I want a name when I lose Bbmaj9 Am7 G6 Gb7-5 Fmaj7 They call Alabama the Crimson Tide C/E C/F Am7 Call me Deacon Blues Em7 (Deacon Blues ) brass: f#4 e a b d5 bb4 g g Dmaj7 Dbm7+5 Cmaj13 Bm7+5 Ebmaj9/6 E7+9+5 Bsus4/G Ebmaj7-5/F My back to the wall a3 bb c4 d a3 G/A F13 A victim of laughing chance Bsus4/G F13 This is for me G/A Cmaj7-5/D The essence of true ro mance Fmaj9 E7-9 Am7 Sharing the things we know and love Bb13 With those of my kind E7 Li bations B7(no5) Sen sations Dm/B E7 Bm7-5/F E7+9 That stagger the mind Bsus4/G Ebmaj7-5/F I crawl like a viper b4 a d5 c G/A F13-5add9 Through these su burban streets Bsus4/G F13 Make love to these women Gmaj7/A A13 Languid and bitter sweet Fmaj7 E7-9 I'll rise when the sun goes down a4 ab g Am7 Gm7 Bbmaj7/C Gb9+5 Fmaj9 Cover every game in town C/E A world of my own D9 Fmaj7/G F/G I'll make it my home sweet home Am7 Em7 I'll learn to work the saxophone Dm7 Cmaj7 I'll play just what I feel Bbmaj9 Am7 G6 Gb7-5 Fmaj7 Drink Scotch whisky all night long C/E C/F Am7 And die be hind the wheel Em7 They got a name for the winners in the world Dm7 Cmaj7 I want a name when I lose Bbmaj9 Am7 G6 Gb7-5 Fmaj7 They call Alabama the Crimson Tide C/E C/F Am7 Call me Deacon Blues Em7 (Deacon Blues ) brass: rhodes: f#4 e a b d5 bb4 g g ab d5 g Dmaj7 Dbm7+5 Cmaj13 Bm7+5 Ebmaj13 E7+9+5 brass e5 d b4 e5 d b4 g a Cmaj7 Em sax solo: |A13 |D7+9 |G13 |B7+9 | e4 a f# g |Em7 |A9 |C/F F#7+9+5 |D/G B7+5 | brass e5 d b4 e5 d b4 g a Cmaj7 Em |A13 |D7+9 |G13 |B7+9 | e4 a f# g |Em7 |A9 |C/F F#7+9+5 |D/G B7+5 | g4 g f f Cmaj7 Bm7+5 Bbmaj7 Am7+5 a4 a g g Dmaj7 Dbm7+5 Cmaj7 Bm7+5 Ebmaj9/6 E7+9+5 G6 Ebmaj7-5/F This is the night b4 a d5 c G/A F13-5add9 Of the expanding man Bsus4/G Ebmaj7-5/F I take one last drag Gmaj7/A A13 As I ap proach the stand Fmaj9 E7-9 I cried when I wrote this song a4 ab g Am7 Gm7 Bbmaj7/C Gb9 Fmaj9 Sue me if I play too long C/E This brother is free D9 Fmaj7/G F/G I'll be what I want to be Am7 Em7 I'll learn to work the saxophone Dm7 Cmaj7 I'll play just what I feel Bbmaj9 Am7 G6 Gb7-5 Fmaj7 Drink Scotch whisky all night long C/E C/F Am7 And die be hind the wheel Em7 They got a name for the winners in the world Dm7 Cmaj7 I want a name when I lose Bbmaj9 Am7 G6 Gb7-5 Fmaj7 They call Alabama the Crimson Tide C/E C/F Am7 Call me Deacon Blues Em7 (Deacon Blues ) brass: f#4 e a g d5 g Dmaj7 Dbm7+5 Cmaj13 Bm7+5 Ebmaj13 E7+9+5 b4 g a |G6 |Dsus4/F |G/A F13-5add9 | | b4 g c5 |Gmaj13 |Ebmaj7-5/F |G/A D13+11 | | |Fmaj9 |E7-9 |Am7 |Bb13 | |E7 |B7(no5) |Dm/B E7 |Bm7-5/F E7+9+5 | b4 g a |G6 |Dsus4/F |G/A F13-5add9 | | e4 c d |Gmaj13 |Ebmaj7-5/F |G/A D13#11 | | |Fmaj9 |E7-9 |Am7 |Bb13 | |E7 |B7(no5) |Dm/B E7 |Bm7-5/F E7+9+5 | b4 g a |G6 |Dsus4/F |G/A F13-5add9 | | chart and transcription Peter Kruger casparus50@yahoo.ca
