About this Album:

Relient K is an evolving band that made thier claim to fame with such albums as "Two Lefts Don't Make a Right...But Three Do" and the immensely wonderful "MHMMM". Thier newest release is an ep called "Apathetic EP". This EP is incredible, in addition to covering "Be My Escape" "Which To Bury, Us Or the Hatchet?" and "Overthinking" in acoustic versions the ep introduces four amazing new songs.

"The Truth" deals with the uncertainty of the world and the wonderful blindness of faith. It's opening reminds the listener of "Chapstick, Chapped Lips, and Things Like Chemistry." "Apathetic Way to Be" is, in my opinion, one of Relient K's best songs ever. The words are upbeat and Matt Theissan's vocals seem to get the message of apathy across without having to repeat the actual word fifty million times in the song. It's outro is one of Relient K's most compeling and "in your face" pieces.

"In Like a Lion" was inspired by "The Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis. It's a very pretty slow song with some good imagery. One song you may be tempted to skip but should actually listen to over and over again is "The Theif." Theissan puts his soul behind this one as he sings of a relationship gone wrong and the remorse over past mistakes.

The band does an excellent job of converting some of it's best songs into acoustic versions. "By My Escape" seems even more down to earth and true to the listener in acoustic and is a great way to re-introduce one of the bands best, but unfortunately overplayed, songs.

Overall "Apathetic EP" is a great cd despite its short length. I've listened to it over and over again and been impressed each time with Relient K's knack for putting a newer, brighter, more wholesome spin on the pop punk/alternative music genre. "Apathetic EP" has got me very excited about Relient K's next production which like it can't get anything but better.
