Mr. Day & The Nights

Born in 1958, Dutch/belgian-born Miel Van Hasselt began his professional career as an oil-industry exploration geophysicist (whose job was to probe land and sea to pinpoint locations in the North Sea and the Middle-East to drill for crude oil). His success in the industry, although very lucrative, only left him dissatisfied with corporate careerism. Stationed in Muscat, Oman on his 30th birthday, bored to death, disillusioned, and feeling that his life no longer had meaning, Miel quit, went for a walk in the desert, picked up the keys to his Dodge Mirada and drove back 11.000 kilometres back to Brussels (driving clear through Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, Greece, ex-Yugoslavia, Austria, and Germany).

Back in Brussels, after his 'great escape', Van Hasselt decides to continue following his radical intuitions. Sensing the artist within, he picked up an accordion (yes! An accordion!) and busked for a number of months in front of the Manneken pis. Switching over to guitar a couple of years later, he one day walks in to Kris Dane's songwriter night at the Archiduc and creates somewhat of a buzz enabling him to start booking shows in landmark venues throughout the country under the name Mr. Day. In parallel, Van Hasselt also performed music for theatre. This later evolved into a prolific acting and directing career which brought him to act on stages across Flanders, Wallonia, France, The Netherlands, and Quebec, as well as Belgian national television, and several film festivals.

In 2011, after releasing 3 underground records, Van Hasselt signs a deal with Artists In A Bottle for Mr. Day and his accompanying band, The Nights. An EP was recorded throughout 2012.

I Just Wanna Be Your Man, Mr. Day & The Nights' first single was released in late April 2013 marking a new chapter in Van Hasselt's career.

The Nights is the modular rock-combo supporting Mr Day.
