About this lyric:
We're All Going To Die by Malcolm Middleton, Music Video, Lyrics and Review
Formerly one half of arch-miserablists Arab Strap, Middleton is on a one-man campaign to make the Christmas number one a bit...well...different this year.
This isn't a wrist-slitting dirge as the title may suggest - just the opposite. It bounces along infectiously, delighting with a swirl of guitar, driving beat and nothing less than electronic arpeggios, pummelling the song's title into your brain until you've got your arm round your granny leading a family sing-song. We're all gonna die What if there's nothing? We'll all have to face it alone. There's a when not an if, Inside everybody Moral thoughts like peace can make you feel... So alone You're gonna die, You're gonna die, You're gonna die alone You're gonna die, You're gonna die, You're gonna die alone All alone What if I don't Become famous posthumously Maybe my story's still good If I take one possession, It'll have to be my duvet When oblivion comes calling out for you. So cold You're gonna die, You're gonna die, You're gonna die alone You're gonna die, You're gonna die, You're gonna die alone All alone Can't sleep at night And theres none to hold ya Remember I'm going through the same Well laugh into the dark, We're all one in a million, With a life we exist a beating heart. You're gonna die, You're gonna die, You're gonna die alone You're gonna die, You're gonna die, You're gonna die alone All alone Malcolm Middleton - We're All Going To Die Review MAYBE the title puts you off but this is more upbeat and life-affirming than any other Christmas single. The former Arab Strap man makes sure the music is upbeat, catchy and more danceable than Last Christmas by Wham! Rollicking along to a new wave beat, the Falkirk singer may be reminding us we're all going to die alone but this makes me smile. Take the lyric, "If I can take one possession then it'll have to be my duvet/When oblivion comes calling it'll be so cold". Now that's a line Noddy "greatest Christmas song writer" Holder would give top marks to. And those doubters thinking this is a pessimistic song, what about these for lyrics, "When you can't sleep at night and there's no one to hold you/Remember I'm going through the same/You've got to laugh into the dark". There are homeless people, folk on their own and even the Africans, whose Christmas won't be happy. This song is for them. source dailyrecord.co.uk
