Flood by: Jars of Clay CD: Jars of Clay written by: Jars of Clay Lyrics: Dan Haseltine from: J.B. (Fyretruks@aol.com) or (guitarman.jbd@juno.com) Copyright:Brentwood Music _______________________________________ Jars plays in an open E tuning on most songs. This interpretation is arranged for standard tuning. CHORDS E5th------ x 7 9 9 0 0 D5th------ x 5 7 7 0 0 C5th------ x 3 5 5 0 0 B5th------ x 2 4 4 0 0 These chords have generic names which will be ok for my purposes. This song is played with a capo on the 3rd fret. All the chords and Violin solo are played relative to the capo. Listen to the CD for the ryhthm. INTRO: E5 (2 beats) C5 (2 b.) D5 (2 b.) B5 (2 b.) Sounds good anyway. This is MY attempt at this song. It sounds pretty good to me and pretty close to the album too. Enjoy! I hope this doesn't get garbled on your computer. i wrote this with my page filling the screen. It might get goofed if your screen is a small window. J.B. Please note: I transcribed the previous Flood from memory without following the music. When I did, i found that it was in the wrong key. But here's the thing ::: I did some looking and found that JOC uses an open E tuning on most of thier songs FLOOD uses this tuning (low to high)=E-B-E-G#-B-E. And they use a Nashville tuning on this particular song. This is when the 4 bass strings (EADG) are replaced with thinner strings one octave higher. You can find those in any 12 string guitar string package. I know it's a big change from standard tuning. I have not taken the time yet to actually do it BUT I might one day. The chords that are used in the other Flood trancsriptions are correct, it's just a mattter of finding the right fingerings and voicings for open E tuning. I;ve been fiddling with these trying to find which ones will work. IT will tke time i guess. ANYway, the string solo is in the wrong key too, Here it is in the right key Cminor (standard tuning) VIOLIN SOLO: e-------------------------------------------------------------- b-------------------------------------------------------------- g-------------------------------------------------------------- d------------------------5--------5--6--8--6--5---------------- a-------------5--6--8------6--8-------------------8--6--------- e---8--7--8------------------------------------------------------- e-------------------------------------------------------------- b-------------------------------------------------------------- g-----5--8--7--5------5--7--7--5-----5---5--7--8--7--5- d-5-----------------8----------------8------------------------ a----------------------------------------------------------- e-------------------------------------------------------------- e-------------------------------------------------------------- b----------6---8----6--------------------------------------- g--7--8-----------------8---7----------------------------- d----------------------------------------------------------- a----------------------------------------------------------- e-------------------------------------------------------------- "calm the storms..." e----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - b------------------------------------------------6---------------------------- - g-----------5--8--7-----------------5--8--7------7-------------5--8-------- d------5----------------8---------5--------------------8--6--5---------------- a----------------------------8----------------------------------------------- e---------------------------------------------------------------------------- e-------6------------------------------------- b---8--------9---8--6--6--------------------"If Icantswim...." g----------------------------------8---7----- d------------------------------------------- a---------------------------------------------- e---------------------------------------- I hope this clears the mud a little (Cheezer42@aol.com) JB Dean ---------------------------------------- Added by: Jon Shaner (jmshaner@juno.com) ---------------------------------------- ??????????
