In 1981, Iron Maiden released their second track of their illustrious career. With newly aquired producer, Martin Birch, Iron Maiden set out on the adventure of creating, quite possibly, one of the best albums of 1981. The sound quality retains some of the raw sound that made Iron Maiden's first album such a rousing success. The album starts out with probably the best cocnert intro song ever, The Ides of March. A short instrumental that sets the tone for the wild ride the listener is about to take. Wrathchild truely 'begins' the album with quite possibly the most recognizable tune in the Maiden arsenal. It's what we in the business call 'balls to the wall rock 'n' roll.' Up next, Murders in the Rue Morge, a musical adaptation to the Edgar Allen Poe classic short story. This is a quite cheerful song in it's sound. Listen to the lyrics and you'll find it very mezmorating. Another Life, Genghis Kahn, and Innocent Exile are the next three songs on the card. Each one is like a fresh blast of adrenaline that prepares you for the masterpiece of the title track. Killers (title song) features one of the most enthusiastic guitar solos ever played by Dave Murray...not to mention one of the most fun to play. Needless to say, if you ever need a good drivin' song, click to track seven. Prodigal Son could be considered an acoustic song, when you first sit down with it, but it soon proves itself with a melodic...melody...and Paul's voice haunting the lyrics like a not-so-cold, ghostly apparation. The last three songs, Purgatory, Twilight Zone, and Drifter are a nice cool down to the end of this excellent album. The cover of the album is, in my opinion, the most recognizable of Iron Maiden's covers. It depicts Eddie with a hatchet, and it looks like he just carved his name into some poor soul's chest. If there is a brand new Iron Maiden fan in the family, Killers is, quite possibly, the best album to get them started with some of Iron Maiden's all time classics.
