not going to sell to the safety corps

staying at the edge of the river bend

watching the boats going past the shore


living on the banks of the deep end

where the floods come up just once in a while

sitting on the shore with an old friend

with the lights in the boats all going by


this is what we came to see

the water runs over the plain

but we can't see down to the bottom

and we can't sail in the rain


walking alone by the side of the river

wather's cold and it's flowing on

trying to keep my feet on solid ground

but I'm at the deep end looking down


I know it's hard to see but even so

feels like something to believe

see the river take the country down

seems the surface flows upstream
