Foggy Dew is een Iers verzetslied dat gaat over de paasopstand. Het vertelt over de verzetsstrijders die omkwamen bij deze opstand. Het lied werd geschreven door Peadar Kearney, die ook de tekst schreef van Amhrán na bhFiann, het volkslied van Ierland.

Pearse (couplet 6) is Patrick Pearse. Hij leidde de paasopstand in Dublin 1n 1916. Voorafgaand aan de Paasopstand werd hij door de opstandelingen gekozen tot eerste president van de nog uit te roepen Ierse Republiek.
Hij was leraar, dichter, schrijver en politiek activist. Op Paasmaandag begon de paasopstand. Tijdens de opstand las hij voor het hoofdpostkantoor van Dublin de proclamatie voor waarbij de republiek werd uitgeroepen, hijzelf was toen de president. Zijn presidentschap duurde niet lang. Engeland stuurde 5000 soldaten naar Ierland en Pearse was gedwongen zich over te geven. Hij werd op 3 mei 1916 geëxecuteerd samen met zijn broer William en veertien andere leiders van de paasopstand.

Cathal Brugna (couplet 6) was een Ierse revolutionair. Zijn werkelijke naam was Charles William St. John Burgess. Hij heeft zich ingezet voor de onafhankelijkheid van Ierland. Hij wordt beschouwd als een van de belangrijkste politieke figuren in Ierland. Zijn levensverhaal is op Wikipedia te lezen. En op youtube staan meerdere video's.
