It's a wake up call

Sometimes you know the ground.

Sometimes you're looking up but drown.

It can be of best intention.

It can be your favorite game.

It can be the next town over,

Where the walls all look the same

 

We can't fight the change

But we'll know when it's our time

Even in the quiet moments

Some look back and say

Whatever happened as we stood still,

Changed our dirt roads to paved.

So we go on pretending

We've caught up with where we are.

And it won't occur till tomorrow

That was just for yesterday.

To think we somehow can.

Preserving all our old ways.
