Running From Home - Bert Jansch

For this tab I have included timings along the top- so if a note apears
under the 2, for example, then that note is played on the second beat of
that bar. Along the bottom I have included some fingering for the right
hand:

p=thumb
i=index
m=middle

The song is in first position and the bass note at fret 1 should be fretted
with the thumb.

Fit a capo at fret 4 to play this.

I'm inclined to think that Bert used an open Asus2/4 tuning capoed on the 2nd fret. The tuning would be E A E E B D (or if capoed on 2: F# B F# F# C# E). Although the notes are correct, the submitted standard tuning capoed to the 4th fret doesn't give the right sympathetic vibration to the guitar that the open tuning gives. What especially gives it away is the lowest part of the melody plucked with the index and middle fingers (the part that hammers up from F# to G# to B). In the submitted version (Capo 4) the two parts share the same string, thus interrupting the constant thumbed bassline of B-F#, B-F#, A-F#, A-F#. With the Capo 2/Open Tuning version, with both the 4th and 3rd strings tuned the same (F#, F#), you can do the lick and keep the bass line going at the same time! Plus the bass line will not require you to use your Thumb. I may be wrong, but if you work out the fingering for this tuning, I think it rings truer.
