city of evil is the most recent album from avenged sevenfold. it is amazing. the entire band have completely matured and improved musically. not saying the other albums aren'y also great, but they do not have the pure skill this album has. you'll find yourself listening to the whole album and in every single song you'll be thinking synysters awesome or that drum beat is unbelievable. it is a must for any true metal/alternative fan.

This album is the best avenged sevenfold album yet. Synyster gates does some crazy stuff on his custom schecter, and the vocals have been renovated completely. So if you liked the way the vocals sounded in the others don't expect it in this one. The lyrics are still slightly demonic however not completely. I would definitley pick this up if i were you and if you are a fan of awesome music.

City of Evil - expectations were thrown way off course.

After the release of their sophomore album: "Waking the Fallen," A7X made people think that the third album was going to be filled with screaming antics, thrash and dark lyrics. Boy were they wrong. This album turned out to be the exact opposite of screamo. A7X decided to turn away from screamo and turn to melody and harmony. The lyrics are soft in most, yet some of them are hard-core (just not the singing.) The high notes prove to be no competition for M. Shadows (vocals.) Some of the notes are a tad bit off tune, but he immediately corrects those mistakes my harmonizing every word in a seductive tune. Also stepping up are the guitarists Zachy Vengence and Sinister Gates. This dynamic duo hits every sinbgle chord with extreme accuracy. As heard in, "Sidewinder," and "The Wicked End," they both contirbute their part. With explosive bursts off harmony, and not a single note off tune. Completing this album with its terrificness, Johnny Christ (drums), and The Rev (bass) kill everyone that listens to the album with amazing blasts of triumphant glory. They really stand out in this album as matured metal band members to perfect this album to its righteousness.

Track1: Beast and the Harlot...
Starting with a yowl of the lead singer, this is the darkest song out of the album. It showcases the talent of the drums and bass. Everything in this song puts forth the demonic and violent possesion of life. Fits in perfectly with Avenged Sevenfold.

Track2: Burn it Down...
Actually a really great song. The first time you hear it, you'll get a sense of suckiness. You'll probably think this track isn't the best accomplishment the band has made, you may even think it's a bit cheesy even though it's hardcore. But after you listen to it three or four times and get familiarized with the words, you'll like it. It's actually one of the best tracks ever sung by A7X. It has made its way to a couple of other albums also. You will most definately find yourself tapping along to the beat of this tune. Even singing it. 8.8/10

Track3: Blinded in Chains...
I really have to say that even though it kind of starts out like "Burn it Down," it turns out to be one of the great tracks ontis album. It takes off with a great beginning full of bass, drums and trashing guitars, softening down just a little bit to a very melodic tune. (Mostly, the bass shows the talent of The Rev.) M. Shadows sets forthward one of his greatest talents (duh! singing.) But he does it with style. You immdiately get sucked into the song with all of the colabartion. Usually they would pick some bad notes that they should've considered revising for some Tag parts of the song. But (in my opinion), they picked beautiful notes that feels every wound on your heart and heals them. It takes singing to the top of the charts. It then ends with a apocalyptic-esque ending that creeps you out a tiny bit, but makes for a great encore. 9.8/10

Track4: Bat Country...
There really isn't much to say about this song except that it's what true punk/alternative-rock should be. It has M. Shadows putting out a radio friendly song that every single person has heard one time or anoither. (Either on MTV, 93Q, 106.5, etc...) I think that everyone can speak for theirselves when it comes to reviewing this song. 9/10

Track5: Trashed and Scattered...
This song releases anger and hatred to make you feel like you accomplished life at the end of this track. It is obviously the track with the most explicit lyrics, but besides that, it gives a look at the frustrating part of life and shoots it in the face. Shadows can make you relate to what he is feeling right then and there. He can also inflict your own personal experience and throw it in the trash. Great track, some notes (not many) a little off, but really good. 8.5/10

Track6: Seize the Day...
Paying homage to 'Guns and Roses' "November Rain," it is the most heart warming song ever made by A7X. Besides "Sounding the Seventh Trumpet's," "Warmness on the Soul," it makes you feel all mushy. I will fess that some of the notes should be revised, but other than that, if you feel like listening to a metal ballad love song , LISTEN TO THIS. It's not bad. 8.6/10

Track7: Sidewinder...(title explains itself)
Starting out with amazing guitar and bass/drum collaboration, it hit my tune bone. The beginning was perfect. Then came the singing. Off tune, and a bit cheesy. It really wasn't that bad, it just really wasn't that good. Then when the chorus came, Shadows stepped it up a notch. What really is a rave is the duo guitar of Z. Vengence and S. Gates. All i can say is that it is amazing. It shows that there atrribute and gorgeous talent is of thee greatest ever. 8.4/10

Track8: The Wicked End...
This song is probably my favorite. Talking about corruption and death along with all of the misery going on in the world as I type, it has every element of a beautiful song. Starting with a dual blast of semi-gothic-esque guitars, (again a bit apocalyptic), it roars through the beginning. Then Shadows brings on his powerful singing voice to show the death-life situation of the earth. The chorus is great with a hypnotizing melody that puts you into a strengthening trance. Then again with the great guitars, and also a gorgeous awe-strikingly beautiful women chorus. They sing their notes like they are thee angels of Heaven themselves. It then goes into guitars with the hyponotic chorus. This song is way up there on the top notch of their career. 10/10

Track9: Strength of the World...
I'll just get straight to the point. This song is a depressing song. It has amazing vocals along with an amazing beginning with great acoustic acompaniments. This song goes into the dark side of Shadows' way of making you feel family being killed. If this song doesn't interest you, i don't know what does. 9.9/10

Track10: Betrayed...
A hardcore song with pulsing rythms. It starts out with beating guitars anfd goes through the song with once again hypnotic melodies. It gives a bit of a different feel from all of those past depressing songs before it. I personally like it alot. It's a great track. 9.3/10

Track11: M.I.A.
The last track is the best track. M. Shadows starts us off with depressing vocals, then a great tune you'll find yourself tapping to immdiately. Talking about being in a war torn city that he's missing. in. action. in. Overall this song shows beautiful vocals, great guitars and a true and pure tune. 10/10

Awesome album for this young band. Overall for songs like Beast And the Charlot or Blinded In Chains, mixing a lot of influences making an own great style that defines this band like a metal band, but with a lot of technique touches, on the drums overall, and plenty of good melodies. A must to have.

I had a good feeling about this albumn. A7X are great. They're not like every other new band and they sound different compared to them as well. Even though it only has 11 songs, the songs are worth listening to and the albumn is worth buying!
